Grant M. Knight Dies Thursday at Local Hospital
Rites Sunday; Was Hardwood Mill Worker
Grant Millard Knight, 65, 606 East Ellsworth street, retired lumber piler and hospital janitor,
died at 1:35 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital here where he had been a patient since Wednesday.
He had been in poor health for the past 17 years, had for the past five years been regarded as seriously ill.
He was born at Taylor Station in Columbia township to Charles Wesley Knight and Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen Harter Knight
on Nov. 23, 1893.
His last employment was at the Hardwood Lumber Mill and at Memorial Hospital, where his death occurred Thursday.
His first marriage was to Gena Bella Walker of Noble township, Noble county.
On Oct. 3, 1940 he was married at Covington, Ky. to Dolly Dimple Ferguson of Union township.
Mr. Knight spent his entire life in Whitley county and since 1917 had lived in Columbia City.
Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Dolly D. Knight, employe of the Meyers & Stickler Drug store;
three sons, Earl of Anderson, Lewis of Sturgis, Mich., and James of Fort Wayne;
four daughters, Mrs. George (Florence) Winebrenner of Noble township;
Mrs. William (Anna May) Rife of Aboite township, Allen county;
Mrs. Earl (Ellen) Schaefer, North Oak street, and Mrs. William (Doris) Walda, Fort Wayne;
a stepson, Harley Pettit Jr. who resides at the Knight home;
two sisters, Mrs. Grace Johnson of Churubusco and Mrs. Mary Trumbull of South Whitley;
24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A son, Theodore, and a brother, Otto Knight, preceded him in death.
Friends will be received after 7 p.m. today at the J. A. DeMoney and Son Funeral Home where the
Rev. Graham L. Kleespie, pastor of Grace Lutheran church, will conduct the services at 2 p.m.
Sunday. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery.
